BEGINNING PIANO

1st, 2nd and 3rd Graders receive two semesters of weekly 30-minute private lessons and 45-minute group classes. This offers the beginning piano pupil enjoyable and effective learning of keyboard and musicianship skills. The group classes are limited to eight students in a class and are taught by the Preparatory Faculty. University Piano Pedagogy students teach the private lessons in a supervised teaching program. Private lessons are scheduled when Fall Semester begins. Our program follows the academic calendar of the University. Classes and private lessons are held in the West Institute, 290 South University Street.

PRACTICE:

Successful, satisfying music study is dependent upon consistent daily practice. Practice time of 15-minutes per day is required for beginning piano students, building to 30-minutes per day as the pupil advances. Parents are asked to provide:

- A piano kept in tune and good repair
- A practice setting free from distraction(e.g. siblings and TV)
- Parental supervision of all practice periods for beginners
- Encouragement, support and appreciation for your pupil’s efforts
- Consistent attendance at classes and lessons
