Scott Hagen resumed his duties as Director of Bands at the University of Utah in fall 2005 after serving in a similar capacity during 2004-2005 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In his position at Utah Prof. Hagen conducts the Wind Ensemble, is responsible for recruiting, and oversees the entire band program. Prof. Hagen's other duties at the University of Utah include teaching several courses in the Music Education program along with undergraduate and graduate conducting.

Prior to his appointment as the Director of Bands, Prof. Hagen served as the conductor of the University of Utah Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. The University of Utah Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and Pep Band are recognized for their outstanding quality across the nation and all enjoy a national reputation of excellence. The Marching Band has performed all over the western United States and has presented half time entertainment for nationally televised games of the San Diego Chargers, L.A. Rams, and Denver Broncos. Additional performances include the Copper Bowl, Freedom Bowl, and Las Vegas Bowl games, NCAA basketball tournaments and a special invitation to participate in the Gifu Kokumin Bunkasai festival held in Japan. Notable performances of the Wind Ensemble include those at the national MENC Conference, and in 2004 performed as a feature ensemble at the Western Region College Band Director’s Conference.

In 1995 Prof. Hagen was named "Teacher of the Year" by the Associated Students of the University of Utah. He was the conductor of the official Utah Olympic Spirit Band for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. For the 2003-2004 school year Prof. Hagen was the recipient of the Student’s Choice Teaching Award in the College of Fine Arts. Prof. Hagen received his bachelor of music degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, and his master's degree in music education from the University of Minnesota. While serving as a graduate assistant in the band program at the University of Minnesota, Prof. Hagen played principal trumpet with the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. His duties at Minnesota included assisting with the University Marching Band, Chamber Winds, and conducting the North Star Band. Professor Hagen is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, Utah Music Educators Association and is an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma Music Sorority. He has been active as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest and Western United States.
