Dr. Joelle L. Lien
Chair, Music Education Division
Joelle L. Lien, Assistant Professor of Music, serves as Chair of the Music Education Division at the University of Utah. Dr. Lien earned the degrees Master of Music in instrumental music and Doctor of Musical Arts in music education from Arizona State University and Bachelor of Music Education from South Dakota State University. Dr. Lien teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and advises masters and doctoral student research. She recently completed a two-year term as the Utah Music Educators Association Vice President for Higher Education, and she is an active member of MENC: The National Association for Music Education and the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum. In addition to publications in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, and the Music Educators Journal, Dr. Lien has presented her research at state, national, and international conferences. She is well-known for her work in descriptive ethics and professionalism in music education.
