Originally from China, Dr Jie Lu came to the U.S. after graduating with top honors from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music. She was the only pianist chosen in 1992 to give concert tours in Macao with the WuHan Symphony. The only full-scholarship award recipient in 1998, she studied at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where her teachers were Angela Chen, Larry Graham, and Robert Spillman.
She has won several piano competitions in the U.S., including first prize in the 36th National Young Artist Competition-Jefferson Concerto Competition (Denver, Colorado), 2000 Spokane Greater Music (Allied Arts) National Competition in the College division, Tourgee DeBose National Piano Competition (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), University Of Colorado at Boulder Concerto Competition, CMTNA Piano Competition in Colorado, and the SummerArts Piano Competition at the University of Utah. Concerto appearances include Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in Denver, 1998; Utah philharmonic in Salt Lake City, 2002, SummerArts Orchestra in Salt Lake City, 2004 and Salt Lake Symphony in Salt Lake City, 2007. She was also invited to give a recital during the Gina Bachauer International Piano Festical in June in 2007.
Dr. Lu worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois under the direction of her dissertation advisor, Dr. Reid Alexander. Her piano professor was Dr. William Heiles.
Dr. Jie Lu is a very active performer. She has given master classes and chamber and solo recitals in many places in the world including Beijing Central Conservatory of Music, Nanjing Normal University, Duke University at Duke University. Recently, she was appointed the guest professor at Nanjing University in China, and her appointment is from 2009 to 2013. As an adjudicator and clinician, Dr. Lu judges regional piano competitions and frequently presents lectures to music teachers’ professional associations. Her recent concert engagements include performances and master classes in Haydn Conservatory in Vienna, Kragow Cultural Center in Poland and Frankfurt Conservatory in Germany.
