University of Utah Singers

Organized in 2003 by Dr. Brady R. Allred, the University of Utah Singers have won international and national acclaim. They were the Grand Prize Winners of the 2005 Florilège Vocal de Tours International Choir Competition in France and winners of the European Grand Prix Choral Competition. The Singers have been featured in concerts throughout England, France, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, and Italy on three European concert tours. They have been invited to perform at conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference. The Singers have recorded seven compact disc recordings which are available through Heartrise Music and BuythisCD.com. The University of Utah Singers is an ensemble of approximately 45 singers and is open to any university student who exhibits advanced vocal and musicianship skills, as well as a high level of commitment and dedication to the art of choral singing. Auditions are normally held the week prior to each fall semester and the first few days of classes. Founded in 1962, the A Cappella Choir continues the great tradition built by Dr. Edgar J. Thompson. The Choir has won considerable recognition as a result of nine European tours in addition to numerous tours throughout Utah and the West. Membership is open to any University student in any academic discipline. Conducted by Dr. Brady R. Allred, this large symphonic choir performs music from the Renaissance to the 21st century with a focus on the major chora/orchestral repertoire. The choir frequently performs with the Utah Philharmonia, the University Wind Ensemble, the University of Utah Singers and Women’s Chorus. Auditions for the A Cappella Choir are normally held the week prior to each fall semester as well as the first few days of classes each semester. The University of Utah Women’s Chorus begins a new legacy with the appointment of Dr. Jessica Napoles as the new conductor. The choir will study, rehearse, and perform a variety of the finest choral literature written and transcribed for treble voices and provide a challenging and highly satisfying musical experience. Membership is open to any student regardless of major or ability level. Informal auditions are normally held the week prior to each fall semester, as well as the first few days of classes each semester. Although not an official university ensemble, The Salt Lake Choral Artists is a community choir conducted by Dr. Brady R. Allred. The Choral Artists include three choirs: the Chamber Choir (50 singers), the Concert Choir (180 singers), and Women’s Choir (75 singers), as well as a core of paid section leaders. Concerts feature creative programming of new and culturally diverse music as well as master choral works with orchestra. Auditions are held throughout the year and by appointment.
