Recent Graduates and Their Capstone Projects
Cathryn Clayton (M.A.) -- Thesis on The Harp Music of John Parry (Fall 2000). Cathy is completing her D.M.A. in Harp Performance (Fall 2007) from the University of Arizona, with a minor in ethnomusicology. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Utah, teaching harp performance, world music, and fundamentals of music theory.
Amber Youell-Fingleton (B.M.) -- Thirty-page paper of original research on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Soprano Concert Arias K. 272, 528, 578, 582, and 583 (Spring 2004). Amber is now in her fourth year of the M.A./Ph.D. program in Musicology at Columbia University.
Stefano Graziano (M.A.) -- Thesis on The Canti Carnascialeschi of Lorenzo de’ Medici (Spring 2004). Stefano completed a M.M. in Lute Performance at the Longy School of Music in Boston (Spring 2007) and now is in the Ph.D. program in Musicology at Boston University.
Jerusha Johnson (B.M.) -- Thirty-page paper of original research on Pierre Attaingnant’s Chansons musicales a quatre parties (1533) for recorder and flute (Spring 2005). Jerusha is completing her B.M. in Music Education at Weber State University in preparation for entering a D.M.A. program in Instrumental Conducting.
Emily Nelson (M.M.) -- Thirty-page paper of original research on Gautier de Coinci’s Miracles de Nostre Dame (1214-1233) (Spring 2005). Emily obtained her Artist’s Diploma from Indiana University’s Early Music Program (Vocal Performance) in Spring 2007 and is now a professional performer living in Seattle, Washington.
Lydia Mayne (M.A.) -- Handel’s Semele Transformed (fifteen-page original study plus lengthy appendix--completed Dec. 2005) and thesis on A Gnostic Reading of Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande (Summer 2006). Lydia is in her second year of study in Stanford University’s Ph.D. program in Musicology.
Kara Shelton (B.M.) -- Thirty-page paper of original research on the Political Context for Henry Brooke’s Irish Ballad Opera, Jack, the Giant Queller, and Study of the Texts of Its Songs (Summer 2006). Kara is in her second year of the M.A. program in Irish Studies at Boston College.
Meladee Kirton (M.M.) -- Thirty-page paper of original research on Lisa Lehmann as a Vocal Pedagogue (Fall 2007). Meladee is finishing her last course for her M.M. and is currently a very busy teacher of piano and voice in Salt Lake City.
