Certification and Licensure

Although your degree is in music, ALL education majors receive certification and licensure through the University of Utah College of Education and the Utah State Office of Education. Advising matters regarding certification and licensure will be handled by the music education faculty in the School of Music. Instrumental music education majors should see Dr. Ely about matters concerning certification and licensure. Choral music education majors should see Dr. Napoles about matters concerning certification and licensure.

How to apply for a Utah teaching license:

Download the Educator License Application form (from this website).

Fill it out and bring it to Dr. Napoles (choral) or Dr. Ely (instrumental), along with your official transcript showing degree posted.

Dr. Napoles and/or Dr. Ely will process your application with the College of Education.

After this, if your record is cleared (fingerprinting and Praxis has been taken care of), you will receive an email letting you know that you can now go to the Utah State Office of Education website and pay your application fee.
